Slice and Bake Christmas Pinwheel Dog Treats đŸȘđŸŸ

Check out this paw-some recipe from our friends at HolokaHome.com!

The holiday season isn’t just for humans — it’s the perfect time to treat your pups too! While you’re pulling out tins of cookies for friends and family, consider making a batch of festive, homemade treats just for your dogs. These “Christmas Pinwheel” treats are simple, wholesome, and made with ingredients that support good digestion and gut health.

Grab some ingredients:

  • 2 cups whole-wheat flour

  • 1 cup pumpkin puree

  • œ cup plain, unsweetened Greek yogurt

  • 1 egg

  • Water (as needed) to bring dough together

  • A few drops of red food coloring (optional — for festive swirls)

💡 - If your dog is sensitive or allergic to grains, you can substitute the whole-wheat flour with something like coconut flour instead.

Now what??

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 °F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, pumpkin puree, Greek yogurt, and egg just until the dough begins to form.

  3. If the dough feels dry or crumbly, add water — one tablespoon at a time — until it sticks together but remains workable.

  4. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface, then divide it into two equal parts.

  5. Add a few drops of red food coloring to one half of the dough (for the festive swirl), and leave the other half plain (the pumpkin gives it a natural orange hue).

  6. Roll each portion out to about 3/8 inch thick.

  7. Stack the two layers on top of each other (colored and plain), then roll them jelly-roll–style into one long log.

  8. If the log isn’t firm enough to slice, pop it into the fridge for at least 30 minutes.

  9. Slice the log into “pinwheels” and arrange them on the prepared baking sheet.

  10. Bake for 25 minutes, or until golden brown on the outside.

  11. Let the treats cool completely — they’ll firm up to a crisp, airy finish. Then store in an airtight container for gifting or snacking.

🎁 Why dogs (and their humans!) love 'em!

  • The pumpkin offers digestive benefits and vitamins, perfect for dogs’ gut health.

  • Plain Greek yogurt provides probiotics — good for digestion (just be sure it’s unsweetened).

  • Simple, wholesome ingredients mean no junk or unnecessary additives.

  • The festive swirl (from the red coloring) makes them fun for the holidays — and great for gifting to dog-loving friends or family.

This simple, festive treat is a wonderful holiday project — easy enough for a busy season, but special enough to make your pup feel truly included in the festivities. Whether you bake them for your own dog or package them as a thoughtful gift, they’re sure to spread some holiday cheer — one crunchy, pumpkiny treat at a time.
