What is a “pet”?

According to Wikipedia a pet is known as ”

A pet is a household animal kept for companionship and a person’s enjoyment, as opposed to wild animals or to livestock, laboratory animals, working animals or sport animals, which are kept for economic or productive reasons. The most popular pets are noted for their loyal or playful characteristics, for their attractive appearance, or for their song. Pets also generally seem to provide their owners with non-trivial health benefits;  keeping pets has been shown to help relieve stress to those who like having animals around. There is now a medically-approved class of “therapy animals,” mostly dogs, that are brought to visit confined humans. Walking a dog can provide both the owner and the dog with exercise, fresh air, and social interaction. The most popular pets are dogs and cats, but there are also rodent pets, such as gerbils, hamsters, chinchillas, fancy rats, and guinea pigs, and avian pets, such as canaries, parakeets, or parrots.”   Do you think thats what pets are? if not submit your definition.

Pets taking over the USA???

Pets are becoming a big part of life everywhere you go! and i can tell you why. There is usually a pet that fits every person and to bond with. In the USA there is almost if not 1 pet for every person. (that doesn’t mean everyone has a pet though) Over 70 million dogs, over 90 million cats, over 145 million (freshwater and saltwater combined), over 15 million birds, over 10 million reptiles and over 15 others!  Compare that to the about 350 million people and they almost equal our population. But thats not all bad! They become part of the family, given as gifts, sleep mostly in owners bed, feed them, insure them, you play with them, they create jobs (like HeartyPet)! Thats just in the USA. Incredible but too bad that some people disrespect animals and mistreat them. There is a good and bad to everything.

Pet Social Networking

A report shows people with social networking profiles that have pets tend to make profiles for their pets (about 6% now). This trend is mostly popular with the british. I think this is very interesting. Do you have a social network profile? Does your pet? If so i recommend you and your pet check out Heartypet on facebook (page) and on twitter @HeartyPet.

Adopt-a-cat Month

July is Adopt-a-cat Month. July is coming to an end. So here is the postives/negatives to owning your very own cat.

Pros: Cute, affectionate, keeps you company when alone, Stress relief, keep themselves clean, good attitude, quiet. (don’t apply to ALL cats)

Cons: Litter Box cleaning, brushing (or they shed), hide, cost of food, fleas, scratch and bite (if it has no toys)

The pros outweigh the cons. Find the right one for you and yor family (My SPCA has a card that tells everything about the animal). So get out there and ADOPT-A-CAT. Also, it doesn’t have to be July for you to adopt one. Also, personally i recommend adoption before buying an animal just because of what happens to them if they are not adopted.

I noticed something in the Heartypet store that caught my eye. Cranimals cranberries for cats and dogs.

I think it is a brilliant idea! Now your pet can get the health and deliciousness out of a cranberry that we get! It has PROTEIN, FIBER, OMEGA 3, CALCIUM, etc.

So, if you have tried it or are going to order it comment on what you and your pets think of Cranimals Gold, Original, Very Berry, or Vibe.

Hairballs And Cats

Cartoons, and real life have you associated with hairballs being a normal part of cats life. Hairballs seem like nothing, right? Well, it is actually a sign of your cat maybe getting sick! Your cats cleans itself with it’s tongue which picks up hair. But, normally that can be digested and passed through the intestines. If your cat is sick they tend to over consume hair and that causes hairballs to be coughed up! Usually a sign of something wrong with the digestive system. So, what used to be thought of as normal you now know might not be so good.
